Abstract
The article focuses on the terms used in the official business language of the 18th century to name the petition documents. The research discusses the Senate decree on excluding the following words from the petition form: b’yot chelom, chelobit’e, chelobitnaya and replacing them with the terms prinosit zhalobu, prosit, proshenie and zhalobnica. The goal of the study is to figure out the nature of the relations between the terms appearing in the law, their functioning in legislative acts and regional business writing. It is suggested that the variants of terms under study can be interpreted in different ways.
