Abstract

The analysis of the composites in the Church Slavonic lexicography, in addition to their representation, confirm their structural features, word-derivation tendencies, relations to the Greek parallels, synonymy, their frequency in the texts with various chronological, territorial and genre affiliation, as well as the equivalents and variations in various redactions of Church Slavonic. Regarding the word-derivation variety, there are composites derived with various prefixes and suffixes. With respect to the translation practice, there are composites which are formally directly related to the Greek models, i.e. calques, derivations by analogy to the Greek word-derivation models, using adequate local components as one of the basic methods for naming abstract notions. Rare or unique compounds represent considerable part of the Church Slavonic lexical fund, and they probably were widely used in the Old/Church Slavonic period, although being lexicographically documented in only one dictionary or specific to only one redaction of Church Slavonic.
