Abstract

The verb предать in the Russian language of the 18th century presents a certain difficulty for the lexicographic description due to several factors. Firstly, it is recognized as part of a high style and in its direct meaning of active action, which is characteristic for common speech, is practically not used. In the process of developing the metaphorical meaning of the verb предать, its semantic reduction takes place, and the names associated with it begin to denote not an object, tool or addressee, but a predicative attribute. Moreover, in different types of sentences, the meaning of the verb is grammatized to a different degree. These processes are reflected in the structure of the syntagmatic connections of the verb, which analysis this article is devoted to. The study was conducted on the materials of the Card index of the Russian language dictionary of the 18th century and the National corps of the Russian language.
