F.I. Buslaev as lexicologist

The article considers the concept of the word developed by academician F.I. Buslaev. It evaluates the work of the scientist on lexical style, historical lexicology and etymology. The author shows the relationship of grammar and vocabulary in Buslaev’s language theory, where the main place is given to the sentence, and the word is presented as an essential element of the sentence, and the meaning of the word depends on the place in the sentence and the whole context. The semantic regularities of the word development, first discovered by the scientist and continued in the works of his followers, are taken into consideration.
